  • 10 Tips to Help You Stick to Your Diet On Vacation

We all could really use a vacation- breathe in positivity and breathe out negativity. It was a long rough year for all of us. We deserve a break. Relax under the sun, sipping fresh lime soda, eating a nice big greasy burger. No-wait, hold on. That's not the plan. The year was rough but we can't put health on the backseat. Let's not forget how important it is to keep our immunity and health on track. So, if you are about to take a vacation here are 10 ways you can successfully stick to your diet plan.

  1. Smaller meals- It is indeed time to let loose, but at what cost? Dont let everything you have worked for go down the drain. Eat smaller meals to feel more satisfied with what you eat. The trick is to have a full plate, but in a small plate. This way you convince your mind that you are eating a lot but the quantity still remains smaller than usual. It will help you feel content and that you are doing justice with the vacation mode that you are in.
  2. Take some strolls- Walking is the best exercise you can do. It is not heavy, it is just about right. Have your meals and take a walk, do more sightseeing, take a swim in the pool, go to the local market, burn some calories for the cheat meals you’ll be eating. It's a win-win scenario.

  3. Stay hydrated- It is very important to stay hydrated, not just for the fact that drinking water will curb your hunger a lot more but all the energy you will be using while exploring new land will be unusual for your body. It will get tired sooner and will need more water in the body. Sipping water throughout the day will indeed make you feel less hungry. So, if you are trying to hold your diet together- this is one beneficial way to do so.

  4. 2 meals a day- Two meals a day would be ideal- if that seems difficult for you. Try having a rolled oats shake in the morning. It will keep you feeling full much longer. It is very nutritious and healthy. Then move on to having brunch at around 12-ish. Keep sipping water throughout the day and have an early dinner at 6:30p.m. and continue hydrating yourself. You can have some 9-in-1 snack mix or a party mix to feel satisfied with your meals.

  5. Choose healthier foods- When you step into the restaurant, don't think about a cheesy burger or a pizza. Try local meals that are very good for health. It could work as a new discovery for what new items you can add to your diet. Perhaps, you might find a liking to certain foods you have never tried before. You never know.

  6. Few cheat meals- You are on vacation!! You can let your hair loose and enjoy a few cheat meals. Just ensure to do it in moderation. If you have cheesy pasta for lunch, maybe have a light dinner or maybe a soup with some sautéed vegetables. But, keep the diet plan stable. Don't go overboard.

  7. Eat only when you are hungry- Vacations make it such that all you want to do is munch munch much all day. And that's a big no-no. Eat only when you feel hungry. Avoid snacking randomly during the day.

  8. Don't give up on fruits & veggies- Add them to every meal you can. They are high in fiber and very nutritional. Have desserts that include fruits and try meals that have more vegetables in them. This way, you do get to experience the local cuisine but with a healthy touch.

  9. Avoid complementary deals- You know when the waiter comes to your table and gets you a basket of bread with butter, or some chips, yes- avoid that. They are high on calories and also unhealthy. So while you are having a yes/no battle in your mind- whether to eat it or not, remember this as a counter argument.

  10. Sharing is caring- It would be a sad vacation if you can't eat all the exotic food of the new land you are venturing. So, here is a trick, if you really want to have that dessert- try it. Try it by sharing it with people around you. That way, you get to have a few bites and feel glad mentally.
