Home Remedies for Headaches That Actually Work
Whether a headache is caused due to sinus or tension and stress, headaches are usually unbearable. If you experience frequent headaches and with every headache, if you pop a painkiller, it might become dangerous for your health. While these painkillers might give you instant relief for a while, having too many painkillers every now and then can have severe side effects. Instead of relying on painkillers, there are some home remedies for a headache that might actually work and cure instantly.
Some of these are as follows:
Ginger:
Ginger has been considered as an “elixir for headaches.” Ginger is one of the best natural home remedies for treating severe headaches. It is known to provide instant relief. Ginger possesses anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing the inflammation of blood vessels in the head which further helps in easing the pain. Headaches are sometimes accompanied by nausea. Ginger helps in controlling nausea and thus decreases the chances of vomiting. While preparing tea, add 5-10 slices of ginger and consume it twice a day. You can even mix equal parts of ginger and lemon juice and add a teaspoon of natural raw honey. Add this mixture to a glass of warm water and consume this liquid whenever the pain becomes severe. Instead of consuming the painkillers, crush some ginger and add it to a pot of boiling water. Inhale the steam of this water for a few minutes and it will relieve you within some time.
Thyme:
Thyme is another best natural home remedy for curing headaches and migraines. Thyme contains the substance carvacrol which is present in most painkillers. Soak a small towel in hot water and add few drops of thyme essential oil. Place this towel on your neck, head, and shoulder to soothe the muscle tensions and relieve a headache. You can also add thyme to tea with a teaspoon of honey and sip it twice a day for better results.
Onion:
Onions are a rich source of antioxidants. They contain the chemical quercetin which reduces inflammation and fights infection. Consume a raw onion that will help clear the waste from the nose and eyes in the form of mucus and tears. If the onions cause irritation to your eyes, you can use it as an inhaler by adding a few slices of onion to boiling water and inhale the vapours of this water for a few minutes for a quick relief.
Green Tea:
Fully loaded with antioxidants, a warm cup of green tea can naturally soothe a headache. An improper digestive system or a sensitive nervous system can cause a headache. Sip a cup of warm green tea which will help in aiding a sluggish digestive system. Add few drops of lemon juice and sprigs of basil leaves. Also, add a teaspoon of honey and brew a fresh cup of green tea every morning.
Almonds:
Eat almonds instead of pills. Yes, dry fruit is a natural remedy for tension-type headaches. It contains salicin, which is the same ingredient found in painkillers. You can eat two almonds of a fistful of them to get relief from a headache. However, almonds are a trigger for those suffering from a migraine.- 11/08/2018
